I Need the Book!

The other day, we were ... contacting, and we got into a really good conversation with a young Indian man about religion and his life. As hard as we casually tried to get him to take a Book of Mormon, he wouldn't take it. He seemed so solid, but then he was just as persistent as we were about not taking it. He went and got in the bus, and we walked away. I won't lie, I was feeling a little down about it. 

 

As we rounded the corner of the station, we saw an Asian man say hi to us, so we walked up, shook his hand and asked for his name, he told us his name and said, "I need the Book!" So he took it out of my hand and said, "and is this your phone number? Ok! Thank you!" Then he walked away! That Book of Mormon was definitely meant for Joseph! It's really not often someone walks up and asks for a copy of the Book of Mormon! 

So something that I have learned a lot more about lately while I have been studying the Book of Mormon is how involved the Lord is with the people. And not to mention, He is very very involved with us as a people as well. He guided them to certain places for reasons that they might not have known. He put them through trials so that one day we could read about them and be strengthened by their examples. These people went through some super duper hard stuff, and hopefully we don't have to be imprisoned for preaching, or tied up on a boat to get the picture that God loves us, wants to protect us, and will always be willing to help us if we call upon Him. He guides us daily, and will never leave our side. He does visit us in our afflictions. I know that to be true. I love the Book of Mormon and challenge you all to read it at least once every day. It changes lives! 

A Book of Mormon Challenge

Our Ward has been doing a Book of Mormon challenge for the summer. We started on memorial day, and it's going until labor day. It is amazing to see how unified this ward is getting by reading the Book of Mormon. The Spirit truly is in those words that the prophets wrote. I have seen a beautiful Spirit dwell in the countenance of all of the members. 

I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that Joseph Smith translated it by the power of God. I encourage all of you to read it cover to cover. There is a member of this ward that has read it 100+ times and he said he still learns something new each time he reads it. I hope to be like him someday and be on my 100th time. I know that I will get there, and I know you can too.

In the Right Place at the Right Time

Yesterday, something interesting happened. Elder Leigh and I were headed out to go tracting. Just before we were about to cross the street, this huge white truck pulled up to the stop sign. "You guys Mormons?" He yelled, his voice really course, probably from cigarettes. 

"Elder Leigh talked to him for a minute and he told us he was from Mexico and was working up in Alberta. He guessed we were from the states. Then he said he knew where Twin Falls was, which blew my mind. We told him our names and he said his name was Aaron and that he'd like a Book of Mormon. He then said, "I really need this in my life right now." And we said goodbye and was gone.

We just happened to be in just the right place at just the right time. I hope he's been reading it, and hope it helps him.

Heavenly Father Will Put Us In All Situations We Need To Be In

On our way home last night we were walking by this abandoned market. I saw man who was sitting there and felt impressed to go talk to him. As we talked I asked if he wanted to go to church 20 yards away and he said yeah. This man is homeless, but he was willing to come. We showed him around the church and asked if he liked to read. He said he did, so we gave him a Book of Mormon. We invited him to come to church this next Sunday. If he takes some time to read he will come to know that Jesus is the Christ. He was a really humble man from everything he told us. 

Today at church one of our investigators brought her daughter. She came up to us after and asked for the Book of Mormon so she could read it. This little 10 year old girl came up and asked for a Book of Mormon! "I want to read it," she said. Wow! Never had that happen before. She is a really smart! In primary she listened as they read and liked it. She wanted it, so we gave it to her.

We went to this market last P Day. When we were about to head home we went into this gift shop because there was AC [air conditioning]. We were just walking around when a lady asked what we were doing. We told her who we were and so forth. She said, “I haven’t seen the Elders for 20 years now." She is a member of the Chruch. As we talked to her she said she hasn’t been to church in a long time. She didn’t even know about the temple. She said she might not be able to see the temple because of her cancer. I don’t know if she was happy to see us or not.We told the Elders in that area about her and told her she needs to be visited.  Heavenly Father will put us all in situations that we need to be in for whatever reason.

I have been seeing miracles. One day it was raining and we stopped at [a] house and talked to this guy really fast. He said that we could pass by another day. We passed by another day and we met his girlfriend at the door. She let us in and we started talking.

We talked about prayer and how it is so important to pray. Then she asked us a question: Who was Joseph Smith? We started teaching about the restoration and gave her a Book of Mormon. She immediately asked when we were coming back.

So two days after this lesson, we went back started talking and we asked her how her prayers are going. She said, "Good." then we began talking about the Book of Mormon. She was so interested about Nefi [Nephi]. She has read, like, ten chapters and could tell us what exactly happened. She now believes in Joseph Smith and in the Book of Mormon. We taught her about the Plan of Salvation and are teaching her the last lesson tomorrow. This all happened in a week. We saw the first day that she was good, but now she carries a light with her. It is so fun to see the changes in people. Really, that is what touches my heart. I see the light in their faces and that makes me want to change even more. I love the moments like that.

On Sunday, we had planned a day of contacting because we are in need of new people. We were knocking doors and we met a family; it’s a mom her daughter and two grand kids. Turns out that on Sunday, they were cleaning their house and they found a book of Mormon that the missionaries gave them. They had read some before and they decided on Sunday that they wanted to know more.

Well, the Lord truly guides us to where we need to be because we showed up just a few minutes afterward to explain the restoration and the importance of the Book of Mormon. It’s one of those miracles that confirms that we are in the work of the Lord and doing what He needs.

Imagine finding an investigator named Moroni who is reading the Book of Mormon. Crazy Crazy!

 Last week, an hermana came to church on her own. Her husband passed away about two weeks ago and she just decided that it was time to better her relationship with the Lord and found out the answers to all of her questions. We finally found her house and she accepted a date to be baptized. This Sunday, we went back to her house and her son was there as well. It was Moroni; we asked him if he would like to be baptized and he smiled and said, "Of course." We explained that if he wanted to be baptized, he had to listen to our messages when we came so that he could learn what was necessary. He just looked at us and said, “Okay... when do we start?” We laughed and then continued to teach the plan of salvation. He is only ten years old but knows all of the Book of Mormon stories. He even asked us why the forbidden fruit was forbidden for Adam and Eve! What kind of ten year old has a question like that cross his mind! Man it was crazy and a real blessing from the Lord.

The Lord helped us this week be in the right place at the right time and has guided us to many of his prepared people.
